Dubuque Regional Humane Society and KWWL partner up to ‘Clear the Shelter’

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) — The shelter is participating in NBC and Telemundo TV stations’ “Clear the Shelters” campaign to get more people in the community to adopt their forever friends.

NBC affiliated TV stations, like KWWL, are helping animal shelters across the country reduce or wave adoption fees during an annual event. To celebrate the campaign’s fifth year, however there is a “Fund the Shelter Challenge” going on right now too.

The top six shelters who raise the most money will be awarded $135,000 from Michelson Found Animals Foundation. Shelters can enter to win this prize money by setting up a page on the “Fund the Shelter Challenge” website here.

President of Dubuque Regional Humane Society, Laura Carstens, says campaigns like this help them get the word out to the community about their animals available for adoption.

“Programs such as fund the shelters and clear the shelters really opens up opportunities for us to communicate that with our community as well as support the initiatives to be able to either place those animals at either a discounted fee or a waved fee.”

Carstens says the “Fund the Shelters Challenge” helps them care for the animals until they find those forever homes.

“Our biggest needs are always animal care so that would specifically be used towards supporting our animals, again in their pathways home providing that compassionate care whether its medical interventions, behavioral interventions. We are 100% committed to our animals.”

If you’d like to help the Dubuque Regional Humane Society win that prize money for their shelter you can do so on their fundraiser page here.
