The Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas tentatively finalized their 2020 budget request during their meeting Friday morning.
RDA President Kent Heerman tells KVOE News the total request is for $350,000 from the city of Emporia. Heerman says this is a “moderate” increase from year’s past.
He adds alot of the funds are for standard operating expenses and personnel. The RDA is looking to increase its marketing and recruitment.
The total increase being sought is $25,000 than last year’s request of $325,000. The budget request will now go before Emporia City Commissioners for approval at a later date.
Also during the meeting discussions centered around information gathered from recent discussions with site selection consultants.
Heerman says he finds meeting with these consultants strategic to gain information on current trends to help increase efforts to recruit new businesses to the local community. Heerman says there are several factors consultants consider when it comes to helping grow local business.
Chief among those factors are the availability of labor talent, sites and if the geographical location makes sense for the business. The RDA will next meet Friday, May 10.
