LAURINBURG — Golfers will be able to compete for and bid on numerous prizes while supporting a charitable cause later this month at the 33rd annual Scotland Regional Hospice Golf Tournament.
The tournament, which is sponsored by Eaton Golf Pride, will take place on April 30 and May 1 at Scotch Meadows Country Club. The entry fee is $125 for men and $75 for women, and the registration deadline is April 24. The registration fee covers a golf cart, gift pack, lunch, refreshments, one mulligan and access to the silent auction and reception.
The silent auction will feature golf equipment, gift certificates, handmade artwork, landscaping services, vacations, sports memorabilia and other items.
Proceeds from the tournament will support end-of-life care at Scotland Regional Hospice. Last year the tournament and silent auction netted a combined $133,000.
Groups of four can sign up for the men’s and women’s team tournaments. The format for the team tournaments is two-low net best ball using full handicap.
There is a $1,000 purse on the line in the men’s team tournament. The champion gets $360, which amounts to $90 per player. Second place gets $240, third place gets $160, fourth place gets $100, fifth place gets $80 and sixth place earns $60.
The women’s team tournament includes a $600 purse. The winning team gets $360, and the runner-up will earn $240.
Mixed teams are not eligible for prizes.
There will be individual competitions as well. The men’s and women’s divisions will both have two types of individual tournaments — one uses a low gross format with no handicap, and the other uses a low net format with full handicap.
The purse is $250 for both of the men’s individual tournaments. The top six finishers in both tournaments will win money. The champion gets $90, the runner-up wins $60, third place wins $40, and the next three finishers get $25, $20 and $15, respectively.
The purse is $150 for both of the women’s tournaments. The winner takes home $90, and the runner-up wins $60.
All competitors have the option of purchasing a “We Believe” ticket for $20 dollars. That ticket gives golfers one additional mulligan, and they’ll also be able to participate in several challenges such as closest to the pin, longest putt and “hit the green”.
Off of the golf course, a pendant donated by Bob’s Jewel Shop will be raffled off. The pendant is called “A Mother’s Love,” and was donated in honor of the late Lawson McCabe, a previous owner of the jewel shop.
Individuals can register for the festivities by calling 910-276-7176 or visiting www.scotlandhospice.org.
